Granville Island Hotel

My husband and I pored over hotels to choose one for our honeymoon. We finally settled on a penthouse suite here and absolutely could not have been more pleased. We LOVED this place! ALL of the staff we came into contact with were welcoming, friendly, and went above and beyond to be helpful. They drew us a map to the airport at 5am and even went so far as to help me arrange secret surprises for my husband’s birthday and sneakily orchestrate them! In all the service we encountered even the smallest details were attended to. The location is FANTASTIC for anyone who wants to be close to downtown but not right in the middle of the busy traffic and challenging parking. The wonderful public market and numerous restaurants and shops are just a quick walk away, as are the ferries that take you to other parts of Vancouver.

Vancouver International Fringe Festival

September 13, 2008

If you’ve never been to the Vancouver International Fringe Festival it time to check it out. Much like regular theatre, but much less pretentious and much more anarchic. From September 5 until September 14, 65 national and international productions are performed in total over 500 times. The festival is uncensored and unjuried, so it’s a very mixed bag. You never know whether you’re going to see the next smash hit or some uninspired makeshift show created by a few friends after a night of heavy drinking. But take your chances this is what makes it part of the fun. You don’t need to worry about what youre gona wear as this is no upscale theatre experience, just a bunch of young playwrights trying to make it in Showbiz. You can’t find a more unique, fun and rewarding theatre experience than the Fringe.

Granville Island Vancouver Canada

September 13, 2008

Granville Island is one of Vancouver’s more entertaining neighborhoods, but unless you’ve moored up in a houseboat, the only overnight option is the Granville Island Hotel.
This is one of Vancouver’s best-kept secrets, this hotel is tucked away on the edge of Granville Island in a unique waterfront setting, a short stroll from theaters, galleries, and the fabulous Granville Island public market. If you don’t have a car, the only potential drawback to a stay here is the location. During the daytime when the False Creek ferries are running, it’s a quick ferry ride to Yaletown or the West End. After 10pm, however, you’re looking at a C$15-to-C$20 cab ride or an hour walk. The Island after dark is reasonably happening, and the hotel’s waterside restaurant and brewpub are good-weather hangout spots with outdoor seating.
